What a visit covers
What we teach at home on Staten Island
On Staten Island many families care for a parent in a private house with stairs, a driveway and a backyard. The nurse comes for an hour, teaches the care your doctor ordered, walks through the house with you to point out fall risks, and leaves written steps in English or Russian.

Hospitals, rehab centers and nursing homes
If your loved one is in a hospital, rehab center or nursing home on Staten Island, we can meet you at the bedside, explain the care plan and the services in plain English or Russian, and help the family get ready for discharge. The facility’s staff give all the care.

Questions
Questions from Staten Island families
Do you come to the South Shore?
Yes — the whole island, including Tottenville, Great Kills and the West Shore. If you are not sure about your address, call 1-877-CARE-303.
We have stairs at home and Dad uses a walker. Can you help?
Yes. The nurse walks through the house with you, points out fall risks room by room and on the stairs, shows safe ways to get up from a bed or chair and to use the walker, and explains which equipment is worth asking his doctor about.
Can you teach us to use a feeding pump or care for a tracheostomy?
Yes, as the doctor ordered. The nurse demonstrates each step, watches you practice, and goes over the warning signs and an emergency plan the whole family understands. Longer routines may take more than one visit.
Can we talk to a nurse by phone first?
Yes. A 30-minute phone consultation with a registered nurse is $50 — questions about care at home, supplies and equipment, or getting ready to leave the hospital. It is education and guidance, not for emergencies.
Other areas we serve
Our nurses teach — they do not provide hands-on nursing care, and they do not replace your doctor, home health agency, facility staff or aide. We teach the care your physician or nurse practitioner ordered. We are not a licensed home care services agency or a Medicare-certified home health agency, and we do not employ or place home health aides. In an emergency, call 911.
